Life in the Aether

Forms of Life

Civia

The Civia are the mortal, sapient beings that call the shattered lands of Gaia their home. Said to be born from ancient fauna of the land, sea, and sky awoken by the Sacrificial Gift, they gain nourishment from the elements merged into the physical world: the warmth of fire, the breath of air, the nourishing waters, and the sustaining earth. With limited lifespans, the Civia rely on large numbers and the establishment of mighty civilizations, each of which has blossomed lush cultures and unique traditions.

There are many Civia species, including Mana, Zephyr, Caprysia, Caelha, Alifaxi, Ynxa, Sylori, Irolys, Rucora, and Kynaur-i.

Aetheria

The Aetheria are immortal, shape-shifting entities born from the magic of the aether. Unlike mortal Civia, Aetheria thrive on magic itself; it runs in their blood and forms the very basis of their existence. They are derived into two bloodlines: Daimons and Elementals, derived from the Ascendants and Primals respectively. Elementals include both Aetherlings, who are directly made by the Primals, and nature spirits that are born randomly from Elemental Founts: focal points of elemental magic scattered across the worlds.

There are many forms of Aetheria, including Aethrin (Aetherlings), Mogirin (Mogi), Nebulon, Sacred Taurians, Daimons, Packrabbits, and Çelia.

Fauna

The Fauna are mortal, non-sapient animals of the aether. Fauna can be native to the realms or to the aethersky, or may migrate in-between. Many fauna form lasting bonds with Civia and Aetheria, becoming beloved familiars and companions.

There are countless species of fauna, but a few examples are Fuzzlies, Fyrdrakes, and Deevils.

Travel

Travel from one end of the Sky to the other is measured in years, and the exact expanse of it is yet to be fully understood. Travel is quickened by branching currents of aether throughout the inner part of the Sky, radiating out from Cor Gaias. They are massive tunnels of stormy light called the Great Veins - once said to be the leyveins of Gaia - that have distinct access and exit points where travelers often stop and meet on their journeys.

Climate and Seasons

Like the climates of the Pearls themselves, the Aethersky has its own weather and governs the seasons of all realms. Pink, shimering rains, storms of purple lightning, and pockets of elemental energy flare up at times, while the Great Veins work to regulate the natural currents of magic that nourish the Pearls. The four seasons of the Aetherion are the same in all realms, representing the Aetherion’s elemental cycles in favor of Water (winter), Air (spring), Fire (summer), and Earth (autumn).
